Ercole Filogenio
Ercole Filogenio aka Ercole Marescotti. As the author of the Dell’eccellenza della donna appare il nome di Ercole Filogenio appears the name of Ercole Filogenio whose true identity his contemporary writers revealed by reporting that it was the pseudonym Ercole Marescotti used to sign that speech in his youth. He was of Bolognese origin and son of Galeazzo di Agostino. In July 1591 he graduated in law, two years after the publication of his speech. Marescotti, having become a secular priest, in 1615 became canon of the underground of his homeland, of Bologna. Unfortunately his function did not last long due to his sudden death which occurred on March 9, 1621. Two other books are attributed to him: the first is from 1614 and is titled Variarum Resolutionum Liber primus & secundus and the second which he wrote in 1620 and entitled Consilium Perillustris Jurisconsulti Domini Herculis Marescotti, patritii Bononiensis, in Causa Mutinen. Castri seu Jurisdictionis pro Illustrissimis Dominis Comitibus de Sertoriis, Bononiae apud Heredes Joannis Rossi.
